About the Author

Zbigniew Ficek is professor of quantum optics and quantum information at the National Centre for Applied Physics, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), Saudi Arabia. He received his PhD from Adam Mickiewicz University, Poland, in 1985. Before KACST, he has held various positions at Adam Mickiewicz University; University of Queensland, Australia; and Queen’s University of Belfast, UK. He has also been an honorary adjunct professor in the Department of Physics, York University, Canada. He has authored or coauthored over 140 scientific papers and 2 research books and been an invited speaker at more than 25 conferences and talks. He is particularly well known for his contributions to the fields of multi-atom effects, spectroscopy with squeezed light, quantum interference, multichromatic spectroscopy, and entanglement.

I used to have a copy of the book until I lended to someone. It was an excelent refference for quality control of medicinal plants an for preparing monographs. The presentation of the coloured T.L.C. traces is impressing, the information can be trusted and it is clearly and concisely presented.

About the Author
Dr. Crack did PhD coursework at MIT and Harvard, and graduated with a PhD in Financial Economics from MIT. He has degrees in Mathematics (with a lot of Statistics), Finance, and Financial Economics and a diploma in Accounting/Finance. He also holds the Investment Management Certificate from the UK Society of Investment Professionals. He has won six university teaching awards and been nominated for five others.

Dr. Crack has published in the top academic journal in Finance (The Journal of Finance), the top practitioner-oriented journals in Finance (The Financial Analysts Journal and The Journal of Futures Markets), and the top pedagogical journal in Finance (The Journal of Financial Education). He has also published in what was the top interdisciplinary Business journal (The Journal of Business). He has written six sole-authored finance books: "Heard on The Street: Quantitative Questions from Wall Street Job Interviews," "Basic Black-Scholes: Option Pricing and Trading," "Foundations for Scientific Investing," a "Test Questions" book to accompany that book, and two "Pocket Heard on The Street" books (one with quant questions from finance job interviews, and one with brain teasers, thinking questions, and non-quant questions from finance job interviews).

Dr. Crack taught at the university level from 1985 to 2000, and again from 2004 onwards, including four years as a front line teaching assistant for MBA students at MIT, and five years teaching undergraduate, MBA and PhD courses at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. He is now a chaired full professor of Finance in New Zealand.

Dr. Crack has worked as an independent consultant to the New York Stock Exchange and to a foreign government body investigating wrong doing in the financial markets. His most recent practitioner job was as the head of quantitative active equity research for the UK and Continental Europe in the London office of what was the world's largest institutional asset manager.

Fabulous book! Timothy Crack covers a host of finance topics with a series of sophisticated discussions that combine technical foundations with a lot of wisdom. Many of the chapters are stand-alone, so that a reader can pick and choose among the topics. Crack writes very well and with a wry touch of humor. It's really a wonderful book, and I recommend it very highly

Written with great clarity with seemlessly integrated topics

This is a very impressive text that provides readable foundational material (algebra, calculus, matrix algebra, and statistics) to explore security returns (and related topics) from academic and "pragmatic" investor perspectives. No matter the level of your interest in investments, there is a portion of the book that will benefit you. Further, because the advanced topics are written in an accessible manner, the reader may find that they can understand a lot more about the given topic than they thought was possible prior to reading the book.

I have a number of books (math, finance, econometrics, and economics) that sit on my shelf because each one covers a particular topic well. Unfortunately, integrating each text's contribution becomes a challenge as each text was not written for the same audience. This text will replace a number of these books because the material is presented with great clarity and is then integrated seamlessly. This is what makes Crack's book so impressive.

This book makes difficult concepts easy to understand. Some of the concepts are advanced, but it's like having a genius as a tutor. Tim Crack does a great job of explaining current investment methodology and research. Any student considering an advanced degree in finance should consider this a must read. David L. Oakford is a Michigan man in his 40's who lives with his wife and family in the Metro Detroit area. He is an accountant who works in the computer software industry. Since his 1979 near death experience David completed a US Navy enlistment and then earned his accounting degree. David is a member of the International Association of Near Death studies.

Experience the Agony & Ecstasy of a Near Death Experience

SOUL BARED tells the heart-wrenching tale of one man's near death experience in 1979. Author David Oakford set his pride aside to describe every aspect of his experience, including the not-so-flattering descriptions of how he came so close to death through a drug overdose. As each gland and organ in his body shut down, one by one, he could hear and see how it's song and rhythm stilled to silence... until all that remained was an eerie silence. Oakford's attention next turned to his immediate surroundings, and how he was confused to find that although he could move about, running was difficult... and although he could see and hear things, he could not see his reflection in a mirror and nobody seemed to hear him even when he shrieked and cried.

SOUL BARED really takes off when Oakford meets his guardian angel, who he calls Bob. Bob helped to explain the meaning of the colored auras that Oakford saw around everyone and everything, describing how each person's aura is useful in viewing to see how much and what kind of work needs to be done for that person's best development. The more brilliant the color, the higher the vibration. Bob went on to describe elemental energy beings, dark souls, the spirit of Gaia and beings of higher vibration, as Oakford looked around at the world through new eyes. The chapters in which Oakford describes meeting a group of angelic spirits are extraordinary for their clarity, as Oakford describes the choice he was given before returning to his body and resuming his life.

I am deeply moved by SOUL BARED, as it inspires me to live up my true spiritual nature and original purpose on Gaia at this time. Readers who have had near death experiences will especially love this book, as it's the next best thing to feeling all the agony and ecstasy of a near death experience. I give this book my highest recommendation.

A Fascinating Shared Experience in Need of an Editor

That David L. Oakford's book is touching and a page-turner is undeniable: no matter the reader's religious or spiritual beliefs this story has power and the ability to ignite the imagination. The honesty of approach of Oakford in putting into book form the experience he had after an accidental overdose of PCP in 1979 manages to pull the reader into the journey of metaphysical discovery: it is difficult to read the book with a critical eye, but if the author expects to write more, then there are some technical issues that he must face.

Oakford is not a trained writer and the fact that he so capably translated the untranslatable experience he had is a major accomplishment. Out of a life of self-destructive and mean spirited behavior Oakford takes a dose of PCP. Soaring out of his earthbound (Gaia) body and encountering 'an extremely beautiful Spirit Being' whom he names 'Bob' (!), Oakford soars through the universe with his guardian angel, observing the pyramids of Egypt, the planets, the Southwest US, and the planet earth/Gaia, learning about the positive and negative energy and aura of the various portions of the planet, the concept of immortality, the choices the soul makes, and the possibilities of making the world different through the true power of love and understanding. He then returns to earth and proceeds into a life changed.

The possibilities of Oakford's lessons from his experience are endless and combine the finest assets of all the spiritual philosophies of the world...and more. The problem with his narration is the lack of an editor's eye and hand to erase the typos and correct syntax and sentence structure - factors that could elevate this book into a viable format for a wider market.

But these are quibbles and the fact that Oakford would translate his near death experience into a readable form is a worthy reason to join him in sharing this mission. And in the long run his honesty as a first time writer speaks loudly, providing food for thought and contemplation in a world so desperately in need of finding solace in the chaos we have created. Outstanding and highly Inspirational!

David Oakford's book "Soul Bared: A Metaphysical Journey"
describes his journey to find life's meaning which culminated
with an extremely profound near-death experience for which he
gained deep spiritual insights. His near-death experience is one
of a few near-death experiences that has really had a profound
impact on my life and I have read thousands of near-death
experiences. David's book has greatly enhanced my life and my
own journey. I rank David's "Soul Bared" right up there with the
great NDE books such as Betty Eadie's "Embraced By The Light"
and Dr. George Ritchie's "Return From Tomorrow". David's book
stands out even more from these great books because
David's "Soul Bared" describes the journey in metaphysical terms
which Eadie and Ritchie could not describe in their books.

WARNING!!!!DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER!!!!!

Only reason this is getting 2 stars and not 1 is because of book 1 Beauty and the Bear! It was a sweet read kinda like Beauty and the Beast except a bit different. Wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised.

Bear Law was utterly disastrous. I liked the start of it. Sheriff Rivers left for dead but he survived and turned into a bear. Ok..thats fine and all. So, because his ex girlfriend Mandy left him years ago and turns up with a bad guy named Dirk he puts her in with him. Which on some level I understand because its Dirk who killed his Deputy and tried killing him. However, I think he should have given her the benefit of the doubt first before judging her. Then they find each other and have sex but he will only believe her if she lets him f*** her in the ass? Um wha? So she lets him and all is forgiven...thats where it went down hill after that. Completely ridiculous and not a believable scenario.

Bear Back...was weird! LOL. Ok...so she has sex with a hot wear-bear in the woods while camping. Ok...read those before. Then she comes onto a Ranger by her vehicle who is intent on ticketing her and she dirty talks him and he rubs one off on himself in front of her to avoid a 15 dollar ticket? LOL. Then wait for it....she goes to a club finds a guy and screws his brains out then....goes back to her bear? All the while they never learned each others names. WTF kinda weird s*** is this? LOL...thats all I got! What I do know is Daphne is a ho.

My suggestion is avoid this box set all together. Look up Beauty and the Bear and either buy or read for free on KU and save yourself the brain cells on the other crap! Sorry but those 2 other stories were just bad and made no sense. I hate to be harsh but 1 story was good and the others were just competently unbelievable...talk about inconsistent.
