If you only buy one PowerCLI book, make it this one.

The second edition of *the* definitive PowerCLI reference book. Just when you thought they couldn't add any more content, the second edition adds another couple of chapters and hundreds of pages of content. Written by the masters of Powershell and PowerCLI, you have no doubt come across each of their names whilst googling the answer to some obscure question with PowerCLI, or vSphere in general.

The book itself covers a wide range of topics for all stages of PowerCLI knowledge. That said, the book assumes a base level of Powershell knowledge. This should be a fair assumption- afterall Powershell has been out the best part of a decade- but I personally quite often run into administrators that have limited or no knowledge of Powershell. Chapter 25 and the Appendix cover the basics of how to execute scripts and some Powershell function for these inexperienced users, however this may be missed if progressing through the book from the beginning.

Other than that; if you only buy one PowerCLI book, make it this one.

PowerCLI masterpiece

I don't think you can find any book or website(s) getting even close to the PowerCLI knowledge that is covered in this book. Anybody working with VMware vSphere should be ready to jump into a PowerShell session, load the PowerCLI snapin and automate any repeatable job. It's already so important to simplify the daily administration and create quick and useful reports within minutes.
Luc and the other authors, deliver a masterpiece to let you get easy into the simple PowerCLI cmdlets or if you're already experienced, dive deep into the vSphere SDK.
No doubt - a must have.

The "must have" PowerCLI Book made better

Power CLI 2nd Edition - A “must have” book for anyone who is working with VMware products and wants to add value and save time.

The book has been helpful to me for three reasons: it has taught me how to automate those mundane tasks that everybody hates to, it has enabled me to remove the human error - making sure results are consistent, and most importantly it has given me back some much needed time to tackle more interesting problems/tasks (after all once you have written a script once it can be re-used on many projects!).

Firstly, I will admit I haven’t read every single line on every single page. However, in my opinion, this isn’t the kind of book you will necessarily read from cover to cover in one sitting. It is, after all, a reference book, therefore whilst some people may read it cover to cover, some people (like myself) will read the sections/pages that are relevant at the specific project or task at that point in time. One thing is clear, it is a book you will keep returning to when you are sitting there scratching your head and mutter to yourself “there has to be a better/faster and more consistent way to do this”.

The authors have a created a good balance of both empowering and informing the reader. Where it needs to, it is specific about the steps required to accomplish a particular task and the end goal, but the book is more than that. The book is about providing the reader with the concise information and background they need to be able to create their own scripting toolkit which will help them make their day to day work easier. The Code Listings provided throughout the book (which are downloadable from the publishers website) provide an invaluable source to add to your own scripting toolkit and I would advise anyone reading to ensure they download and use them.

In my opinion, the mark of a good technical reference book is when it is the first book you think of when you have to solve a problem/complete a task and over the last few months this has been one of those books. In my continual journey through PowerShell and VMware PowerCLI, this is definitely a book I will be referring back to again and again.

Comprehensive but a bit too mechanistic.

This updated edition of EMarketing Excellence is definitely comprehensive and this edition devotes many pages to social media, which is far different today than it was when the previous edition of the book was published in 2008. The format of the book seems designed as an introductory textbook, and because if this, includes lots of information, but does not go into depth regarding much of it. This is not a fault of the book, though. It seems that's the purpose. However, it is primarily UK centered in both the writing style and the examples, and it seems a bit stodgy to me. Additionally, for companies that are retail oriented, the large business-to-business section may not be all that helpful, and for very small, niche one to four person operations, there are not a lot of examples to study, as the case studies are primarily for large companies, and as mentioned before, mainly -- United Kingdom companies.
If you are formula or very organization-oriented, you will enjoy theacronyms and visual models that describe in workflow plans. If you are more of the intuitive type, you might benefit more impressionistically from these models, i.e., taking the overall sense of the models and shaping them to your own purposes. Personally, I think marketing books should emphasize more of a discovery process, not a template-oriented one size fits all model.
The section on customer behavior is one that I didn't find helpful at all. If models could explain consumer behavior, there would be a level playing field. But I think understanding consumers takes empathy and some form of genuine human concern, and is more of an art than science. If it was just a question of principles or techniques, there wouldn't be so many consumer complaint forums like yelp.
The authors, Paul Smith and Dave Chaffey, are good at what they do. And the book is well-designed. However, overall, it seems designed for large business models. For bloggers, 'boutique'-type vendors and services, you may wish to look elsewhere.

Excellent thorough overview of digital marketing

I've used this textbook many many times both as a lecturer/trainer in digital marketing and also as a practitioner. It's an excellent and comprehensive student resource and is very readable. The chapters are well paces with plenty of examples, checklists, summaries, case studies, practical tips and insights. I particularly like the focus on Online Value Proposition. The outworking of SOSTAC and the 5S model is also invaluable to strategic digital planning. Plenty of new e-models explored and also the impact of changes to more traditional offline models.

Chaffey and Smith were writing in this area long before every other marketer and commercial agency decided to jump on the bandwagon and write a digital marketing book. The content is academically robust and references plenty of peer reviewed literature as well as classic textbooks and links to helpful tools and websites.

I really have no idea why the first reviewer here of this book is being so negative. I suspect sabotage...

EMarketing Excellence is the key work for any marketing student, marketing practitioner or marketing tutor working in the online world.

As a CIM graduate moving into emarketing, I bought my first copy in 1999. Since then, as a marketing tutor (and also an examiner for an international marketing organisation) I have bought this newer version to stay up to date.

Both of my copies have post-it notes throughout, reminding me that it's a key text because this book:
* Lists useful resources to assess your market, whether you're a student or practitioner
* Includes an adapted version of the Ansoff matrix for the digital world
* Addresses issues on community management
* And it essentially includes the 5S tool which I've used for several years
*
The style of the book is easy to use as it's a mix of case studies, tools and practical frameworks.

I strongly recommend EMarketing Excellence to my students (they're graduates and often more mature than the average student) who are embarking on their digital journey.

Wow! Charlene Hartnady delights her readers again with another exhilarating adventure in Stolen by the Alpha Wolf Bundle, a sub-series and second release in her incredibly popular The Chosen Series. I love it! Originally, this story was released in three separate installments, Accidental Theft, Deliberate Theft and Determined Theft but has now been combined into one convenient compilation of all three. It's my opinion that this story can be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading the first book of The Chosen series, Chosen by the Vampire Kings. Charlene has dazzled us yet again with her amazing talent, astounding imagination and incredible skill, and given her readers a delicious masterpiece of paranormal fantasy, adventure, suspense and romance. Be still my heart! The story is exciting, powerful, action packed, original, compelling, thrilling, riveting, funny, heart wrenching, romantic, heartwarming, arousing, sensual, steamy and hot! The dialog is smart, witty, funny, well written and flows effortlessly. The characters are fascinating, captivating, enticing, endearing, engaging, sexy as sin and sometimes, down right hilarious. They jump right off the page, capture your heart, grab your imagination, make you cry and tickle your funny bone!
The wolves have launched an attack against the Vampire Kings, unsuccessfully trying to capture their human Queen. Ward & Stephany never got over their 1st encounter with each other & when she finds out that she's pregnant she's torn by wanting to have the baby &/or getting an abortion (because most female vampires have to narrow of a pelvis to give birth & they can't have a C-section because they heal to fast). Ward changes her mind about the abortion when he comes back for her & Tanya helps them escape. While with Ward in his hideout she learns that shifters have smaller babies & that some of their lores are untrue (like the fact t that Stephany & Lance are mated; even though she's not in love with him). When it's time for her to have the baby they go back to Sweetwater (the closest town) to find Becky to induce the labor; in the meantime Lance who has been waiting for the phone that Tanya gave them to get used so that he can figure out where they are & come & forcibly take Stephany back (as he's under the impression that he actually wants her from his near death experience). Lance informs Zane & Brant where they are & Zane & Brant go to get them; but they had thought that Lance had obeyed them & stayed behind but he didn't & it doesn't go as they planned. As this is a HEA story, I'm not telling you what happens next only that both Ward, Stephany, Becky & everyone else gets a surprise.

Awesome and Worthy of Rereading Several Times

This was the first set of books that I read by Charlene and I feel in love with all of the characters. I still have yet to read the preceding series because I don't particularly like the vampire kings even though they have shown some improvement in later books. As an introduction to the world that Charlene created in all of her series I think this was best. I love the shifters and wish there were more stories involving them. I love the vampires too but they've been the main focus for a while now.

This set still remains my favorite of Charlene's. I've read it a few times since I first read it a couple of months ago. The characters are strong and well developed. Best of all I don't want to kill the female lead. There's so many stories out there where I cringe at the female lead for their stupidity. Charlene's women tend to be very well written. There's only been a few that I didn't like which for me is a compliment. :)

I bought this book for my wife but after having looked at it I should have bought some flowers instead.

The book was bilge water but for those who watch the gurus of e-marketing the classic formula for e-book selling has been followed to the letter.

Really great ad copy to move the book (sell the sizzle not the steak) and use the book as a thinly veiled advertisement pushing the products of all the gurus who "generously" supplied content.

For the unititiated I would suggest this. Go to each of the websites of those marketers mentioned in the book or the teaser copy. What you will find is the same names popping up on all of the different websites. This is because they each act as an endorsement for the others product.

Go to Mitch's website and you will see the "usual suspects" endorsing this book as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then go to one of their's and you will find Mitch endorsing their product as the greatest thing since sliced bread. It takes a while to spot the mechanics but before to long you to will learn the secrect too cross-plugging and expert endorsements for fame and fortune.

It reminds me a little of the old Shakesperian acting troupes where the same five or six actors toured together. In each play it was the same actors only playing different parts.

I also suspect that those who have provided glowing reviews are either new to this game or are schmoozing for an endorsement of their own product by one of the big fish.

Bottom line- save your money. And remember how this game works the next time you get one of those "You've just got to see this" emails touting a new product from one of the "usual suspects".

This is how you take dishwater and turn it into an overnight best seller. Which ever one of these guys who's turn it is to shear the sheep this month simply has the other guys who are waiting their turn at bat blast their mail list with a glowing revue and a "to good to resist" offer. The groupies and the newbies fork out the shekels enmasse while the gurus begin work on their sheep shearing best seller.

Wonderful art work and very realistic story, but maybe too realistic for some kids

The artwork in "This One Summer" reaches out and pulls the reader into the story. It is a very sad but well told tale.

I have only one caution. The age range is 12-18. The subject matter is such that it may not be appropriate for some 12 year olds:
1)references to porn, oral sex, and blow jobs and 2) language.

You will have to decide if this is appropriate for your child. My older child can deal with it, but my younger one (still with in suggested age range) wanted nothing to do with it.

I was actually surprised at how difficult the story was. There was hope and joy, but so much sadness. The cover artwork is so joyful that I didn't expect it to be quite so heavy. I know it hinted at issues, but I was still not prepared.

Beautiful art, great book

This is a coming of age book about two girls growing up and becoming young adults as they spent one summer together at Awago beach. The characters in the book and the story plot are very realistic. I love the friendship between the girls, the curiosities of what the grown ups do, and all the summer elements the book captures. The story is very well written and beautifully illustrated. In my opinion, the book is easy and enjoyable to read but the content is not suitable for kids younger than 13.

Excellent book, it captures the strange fleeting feelings from adolescence. The feeling of looking far into the future and realizing that you will soon be dealing with the problems that your older friends and relatives deal with. Finding out that your parents can feel just as powerless and angry as you can. The excitement of the first time watching horror movies and wondering what real gore looks like. The nervous sensation of finding out what sex and relationships are all about and what they mean to you.
